The world exists according to two laws: the law of cause and effect, which holds that whenever a cause exists, a corresponding result follows; and the law of repetition, by which all things sustain their existence through repetition.
Karma causes human beings to repeat the wrong actions of the past. To stop the activity of this karma, enlightenment is necessary. Only enlightenment can restrain karma. The only way to eliminate karma is to burn it away. When the love for the world reaches a certain level, a fire arises. Only this fire can burn away karma.
Just harvested beans are called ‘fruits’, but when those same beans are planted in the ground, they are called ‘seeds’. In the same way, the crystal which our actions resulted in is called ‘karma’, and when this crystal acts as the cause of our actions, it is called ‘destiny’.
Everything that exists in the world fundamentally possesses a drive to survive. Naturally, karma is no exception. In other words, karma seeks to maintain its own existence through ceaseless activity.
There are two types of karma: good karma(善業) and bad karma(惡業). That which is produced as the result of performing good deeds is called good karma. Good karma is also referred to as merit(功德). That which is produced as the result of performing bad deeds is called bad karma. The word ‘karma’, as people commonly use it, refers to bad karma.
Education refers to the act of teaching and nurturing. In other words, education means the act of conveying what exists as it is and guiding a person to become better by helping them make it their own. Teaching can be accessed not only from a living person but also through the writings or voices of those who have already passed away. However, education can take place only among those who are alive.
