Standards

 When encountering things and affairs of the world, understanding them, judging them, making decisions, and acting upon them, we must possess the right standards. This is a principle that we must invariably uphold as we navigate the world.

 The standards held by most people are shaped by their own desires or ideals. The right standards exist within the very things and affairs of the world that we must judge and decide upon—that is, within what exists.

Socrates

 A man went to the Parthenon and asked, "Who is the wisest man in the world?" The temple answered, "Socrates, who lives in Athens, is the wisest man." He met Socrates and asked, "Are you really the Socrates who is said to be the wisest man in the world?" Socrates answered, "I know nothing. If there's one thing I know, it's that I know nothing." He returned to the Parthenon and demanded, "Socrates said he knew nothing. How can he be the wisest man in the world?" The temple replied, "People don't know that they know nothing. But doesn't Socrates know that one thing?"

The Level of Truth

 The accuracy with which one can see things as they truly are varies depending on their level of truth. For example, a person with a 50% level of truth sees 50% of what exists correctly, while the remaining 50% is perceived inaccurately.  Each person has a different level of truth. The fact that these levels differ implies that the level of truth can change. In order to raise one’s level of truth — that is, to see what exists more accurately — enlightenment is necessary.
